Date: December 29, 2005 09:02PM this seems to be the case with me. Its like i cant move my arms fast enough anymore to sprint. I am a sprinter first but my coach wanted to try me in some distance events to get some times and its like screwed up my sprinting some how. Has this happened to anyone else? And what have you done to correct it? Re: does distance swimming hurt your sprinting ability?

Date: December 30, 2005 04:55AM no that has never happened to me, but just bc im not a distance swimmer, but i could def see how that could happen. it looks like your arms got used to a slower tempo bc you were swimming a lot of distance, and when you swim distance sets/events, your arms shouldnt move as fast as they do in a 50 . to correct it, on sprint sets/events, focus on moving your arms a lot faster than you do when you swim distance i hope this helps! good luck! Date: December 30, 2005 03:53PM a teammate of mine had another prob with this. he`s also a sprinter, and pur coach made him do some distance. he got used to sliding very easily in the water, cuz in distance ur arm and leg tempo isn`t that high and u can feel the water better anyway, when he returned to sprinting,he had almost lost the slide on short distances. could also be caused by faster armtempo, and he wasn`t used to it anymore.. did u get the problem I was describing? Date: December 31, 2005 04:45AM my coach switched me from the beginning of the season first he wanted me to sprint then he had me start doing 500's and 400ims and i found out that i liked distance better. but when a sprint meet came up i had the same problem in my first event so what i did is i had to concentrate hard on my movements in the water and it helped alot. \\\"U know ur a swimmer when u can go up to someone and say ill show u my breast if u show me ur fly!\\\" --Jenn\\\'s fav quote! Date: January 03, 2006 12:48PM yeah i am also a sprinter and my coach made me swim distance events during 1year and a half!!but i changed nothing to my spritn it made just faster thats all!!so you perhaps aren't a "true" sprinter but a real distance swimmer!!just think about it!!!if you are a sprinter you don't worry about your sprint!!you just know you can!!!;-)) so just think about it!! mfg rinpoche-sama Re: does distance swimming hurt your sprinting ability?

Date: January 04, 2006 10:35PM well, the guy was swimming 25secs /50 m and he`s 14,so I`m guessing the fact that he`s a sprinter isn`t an issue that can be debated,,, Re: does distance swimming hurt your sprinting ability?

Date: January 10, 2006 01:56PM Yeah, I know how u r felling, that happened to me too...what u should do is when u have sprint sets, no matter when is the training, try to do ur best, and when it gets time for u to do the hard training for ur sprint events u will be fine! Anyway, if it is not working, try to talk to ur coach. If u need any help or just want to talk about that add me on hotmail messenger! Date: February 23, 2012 03:09AM I never had that problem, because I'm a distance swimmer in the first place. But like I have the 2nd fastest 100 time on our team. I'm pretty sure distance helps with sprints. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
